This film is made up of images of South Africa, its nature, people and cities, without comment, edited to the hypnotic mujsic of the Cape Town-based musician Campbell Burns. Short and long shots, slowed down and accelerated, close-ups and vistas; collectively they give a kaleidoscopic impression of the country, more than a decade after the official end of Apartheid. The film moves from one individual to the next, showing all races and classes: from a begging white man to a rich black man.

Summary:
Determined to find out what white identity means to whites – and why social segregation remains important – Desai strikes out on a road trip across South Africa with a light spirit and an enquiring mind. His mission: to find and talk to those white South Africans who are so terrified of being swamped by Africa that they purposely isolated themselves from all races in a town called Orania. From the very onset, until he is standing next to the sculpture of a in the heart of Orania, Desai gently challenges the ordinary whites he meets, be they English middle-class or Afrikaans farmers.

Summary:
With his side bleeding, a man called Shadow limps through a black and white landscape of burned out buildings, funeral processions, haunted by memories that are in color--his guilt haunts him and his visions are eating at his soul. He wants to bathe, to clean his wound, but he finds no one willing to let him use their water. The residents of the township capture a young man accused of rape. The two men's paths cross and Shadow's place in society is revealed. Will the blood wash off?
