Country:United States of America
Director:Walt Disney
Summary:
This film series marked the beginning of Walt Disney’s work as an animator. He had actually intended to make a film of Lewis Carrol’s classic Through the Looking-Glass as his first project but in the meantime he commenced a series of shorts in a rather experimental vein, and no doubt influenced by the Fleischer brothers, wherein a live action girl interacts with her cartoon counterparts in an otherwise drawn world. He was to continue the series over several years; exploiting every trick to confuse life and fantasy. But later episodes actually became more clever and nuanced in their approach and we see how significantly Disney’s art as an animator was shaped by themes of parallel realities.
