Summary:

Not two kilometres away from a quaint seaside resort is Zwelihle, still very much the Apartheid township it was ten years ago. Unemployment is high, illegal abalone poaching is rife and life is bleak. Desperate for survival, and needing a way to break into the white world of money and material comforts, a group of young boys took to singing ‘Santa Lucia’ on the streets of Hermanus to the delight of tourists. Training is arranged for the boys with a professional tenor, himself a young man with the townships, and the raggedy street singers finally make it onto the main stage at the annual Hermanus Whale Festival.
